Geographical Indication (GI) Tags in India | List of geographical indications in India

                  Geographical Indication is one of the hot question topics for almost all competitive exams including SSC or UPSC Civil Services Prelims. Knowledge of students on Indian culture and diversity is tested by different question formats connected to GI tags – including ‘Match the following’ questions.  WHAT IS GI TAG ЁЯСА 

                A geographical indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation that are due to that origin. In order to function as a GI, a sign must identify a product as originating in a given place.

 ABOUT GI TAGS ЁЯСА

ЁЯСЙ Ministry of commerce industry ministry give GI tags in India 

ЁЯСЙ India has enacted the geographical indication of goods ( registration and protection ) act 1999  has come in to force in 2003 

ЁЯСЙ India has 236 GI products registered so far and over 619 more products have applied for the label

ЁЯСЙ Highest  no of gi tags = Karnataka 

ЁЯСЙ GI tag is vaild =  10 year 

ЁЯСЙ First GI tag in 2004-05  = Darjeeling tea 

ЁЯСЙ GI tag slogan = INVALUABLE TREASURES OF INCREDIBLE INDIA
